Poetry - Once I Write of Love

Below is a piece of poetry written in 2004, based on the love I have for my partner Michael at the same time reflecting on my own insecurity.

Once I Write Of Love

I had a dream; it was a summer’s night in June
Strange when I sleep, under a buttermilk moon.
There were roses of crimson, white, yellow and red
Its petals scattered, draped across my bed.
I remember a candle; its flame flickered and shone
I was scared you would leave, that you would be gone.
Nevertheless, you were there, beside me, much as you are here
Therefore, I leant over I kissed you, and whispered in your ear.

I cannot say, sincerely because my words just fall apart.
   In a word, LOVE!
   Where do I start?
I know how I feel, but how do I put it in text
   Once I write of LOVE!
What do I write about next?

You smiled like you do, then faded away
Dreams do not endure forever, nothing is here to stay.
The roses in my room, became roses of fire,
Burning away my foolishness, burning away my desire.
You were gone empty was my bed,
I was alone, not warm, but rather cold instead.
I had a dream it was almost about you
Left with out absolution and the words I spoke true.

I cannot say, sincerely because my words just fall apart.
   In a word, LOVE!
   Where do I start?
I know how I feel, but how do I put it in text
   Once I write of LOVE!
What do I write about next?

Published Works #2 (All through the night)

This work was published in 1997 by the poetry guild, Published in the book A Few Precious Thoughts.

It was written for an ex girlfiend at the time, a long life friend who was soon to become my wife. That was off cause before I admitted to myself and everyone around me that I was Gay.

Even so, it's still a special peace of work for me, because Julie was a special person.

All through the night

Kiss my lips take away my pain
I kiss your lips, in the pouring rain.
Take me in your arms and hold me tight
I kiss you so gently all through the night.

So gentle, so in love my love for you is true
Happy am I, loving you.
Love, amongst candles light
To my surprise, you are my night.

All through the night, lights down low
I kiss your naked body, with every candle aglow.
Even when I run out of poems that rhyme
The sun no longer shines.

I will take you in my arms and hold you tight
Kissing you gently, all through the night.

Published Works #1 (Bed of Roses)

A real embarrassing piece of poetry written in 1996 for a then ex girlfiend. I think I have improved a little since then, but I shouldn't be the judge of that.

Bed of Roses

published: 1997 / publisher: penhaligon page / book: for the present

Bed of Roses

I am to you, the tenderness of warm air
With the silence of ocean current
That drifts from here to there.
Daydreams and visions, thoughts of you, throughout my day
Forever,
So please, stay.
My love for you fills this shallow heart
So kiss and hug me now before it falls apart.
Bed of roses
Lights down low,
The curtains drawn
The candles aglow,
Whispering these words, I reach in and I share
This delicate heart for my maiden so fair.

For Mary
